And establish prayer and give Zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves - you will find it with Allah (swt). Indeed, Allah (swt) sees all that you do."

 Surah Al-Baqarah (2:110)

What is Zakat?

Zakat (Zakah) or almsgiving is a fundamental pillar (4th) of Islam, requiring eligible Muslims to donate 2.5% of their wealth annually to support the needy. It purifies wealth, promotes social equity, and strengthens community welfare. Obligatory on savings above the nisab threshold, Zakat fosters economic balance and spiritual growth in Islamic teachings.

You have to meet certain criteria to give Zakat:

Zakat is obligatory for adult Muslims of sound mind who possess wealth exceeding the nisab threshold (85 grams of gold or equivalent) for a full lunar year. Applicable to cash, savings, investments, and assets, Zakat ensures wealth circulation and social welfare, reinforcing financial responsibility and compassion in Islamic teachings.

Nisab: Gold and silver determine the Nisab threshold for Zakat. The Nisab is set at the value of 85 grams of gold or 613 grams of silver. Those whose wealth exceeds this threshold for a full lunar year are obligated to give 2.5% in Zakat to eligible recipients.

Who can get Zakat, what are the criteria?

Zakat recipients must fall into one of eight categories specified in the Quran: the poor, needy, debt-ridden, stranded travellers, zakat administrators, new Muslims, those in bondage, and those striving in Allah’s cause. It ensures financial aid reaches deserving individuals, promoting social justice and economic balance in the society.

Subhan Allah

“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah (swt) is like a seed that grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah (swt) multiplies [the reward] for whom He wills.”

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:261)

“Those who give in charity, whether in prosperity or adversity, who control their anger and pardon others—surely, Allah (swt) loves the good-doers.”

Surah Al-Imran (3:134)

“Whatever you spend in charity, Allah (swt) will compensate it, for He is the Best Provider.”

Surah Saba (34:39)

"We cant help everyone but everyone can help someone"
